Inteview: Podolski, Wrapped between Mixed Feelings
June 9, 2008 – 3:07 am | by admin
Lukas Podolski was the man of the game in the match against Poland. He scored twice and thus gave Germany an ideal start to their EURO 2008 Group B campaign. He struck in the 20th and 72nd minutes in Klagenfurt, in a move that earn himself the Carlsberg Man of the Match award.
Podolski’s coach, Joachim Low, his mates, as well as Germany’s thousands of fans have surely enjoyed this brilliant start at EURO 2008. Only Lukas Podolski himself has had mixed feelings about it! Why’s that?
Although he plays in Germany’s national football team and for FC Bayern Munchen, Lukas Podolski was born in Poland and still has “a big family there.” It is thus obvious why he couldn’t enjoy victory as much as the other “100% Germans!”
“Obviously I have mixed feelings,” Lukas Podolski admitted. “I was born in Poland and I have a big family there so it’s a very important thing for me. We applied what we worked on in training and must push forward from here.” But, with Croatia beating Austria, the 23-year-old football player realized that he had no time for such feelings, as the hard work was just beginning: “As I said, this is the first step and we must continue – we can’t relax. We have two days to refresh ourselves and then it’s back to training and everything continues from there.”
