Greece: Sotiris Ninis Called Up to Greece’s Squad

May 20, 2008 – 6:11 am | by admin

Sotiris Ninis is only 18 years old, but despite his age, he will be part of UEFA EURO 2008!

The teenager was called up to Greece’s squad by coach Otto Rehhagel partly because of the fact that several important players will be forced to miss UEFA EURO 2008 due to club commitments. However, Ninis is a talented, highly-rated football player, who impressed a lot when Greece reached the final of 2007’s UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Sotiris Ninis was very happy to be included in the squad for UEFA EURO 2008. “It’s a dream come true and an extra motivation to work even harder and improve myself. I’m very happy,” said Ninis.

Unfortunately, Greece’s football fans will have to watch their favorite team playing without a very famous “quartet”, as football players Antonios Nikopolidis, Vassilios Torosidis, Paraskevas Antzas and Christos Patsatzoglou will be all involved in the Greek Cup final.

On the other hand, other significant Greek football players, such as Georgios Samaras (Celtic FC), Angelos Basinas (RCD Mallorca), Georgios Seitaridis (Club Atlético de Madrid), Theofanis Gekas (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), Ioannis Amanatidis, Sotirios Kyrgiakos (both Eintracht Frankfurt) and Angelos Charisteas (1. FC Nürnberg) will be missing from UEFA EURO 2008 also due to club duties.

In this context, coach Otto Rehhagel had to choose Sotiris Ninis and other young players for his squad.
