Bruno Alves and Bosingwa Wait for Coach’s Decision

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Bruno Alves and Bosingwa are currently waiting for coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s decision regarding the starting lineup for EURO 2008. The two defenders have obviously high hopes to be called by Scolari in Portugal’s starting lineup for the match against Turkey in Saturday’s Group A opener in Geneva.

Alves is confident in his coach’s experience saying about Scolari that “It’s the coach who chooses who’s best. And once he has chosen, I think it will be fine.” However, defender Bruno Alves also promised that he will try “as hard as possible to make sure” he gets a chance.

On the other hand Bosingwa can feel a little bit more secure as Miguel is still recovering. However, he seems not to take anything for granted, as Portugal’s squad is “packed” with high-profile football stars. “We have two players for every position,” said Bosingwa, who also added: “I have worked hard for this, but whether I am chosen or not, I won’t know until Saturday. I want to be picked, of course. I am an ambitious player and am here to play, just like the other 22 players in the squad.”

Portugal: Maniche Will Miss EURO This Time

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Although four years ago Maniche shone at UEFA EURO, the FC Internazionale Milano midfielder is not among Portugal’s final 23-man squad for UEFA EURO 2008. Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari however included Maniche’s brother in his final 23-man squad for UEFA EURO 2008.

So, it seems that it will be Jorge Ribeiro’s turn to shine at UEFA EURO. Maniche’s brother is 26 years old and he plays at Boavista, for which he has scored eight goals in 26 Liga outings.

Luiz Felipe Scolari’s squad is to convene in Viseu for a training camp that will last between 19 and 31 May.
